The internship program of Bulatlat is different from that of the PCIJ. In Bulatlat, we don't have to come to the office everyday. However,we are required to attend all the issue planning and seminars they will sponsor for us. In the duration of my internship, I was present in all the seven seminars that they required us to attend. We interns are also tasked to do 40 hours of archiving. In my case, since I only rendered 100 hours to their office, I did archiving for 20 hours only. What we do during archiving is to upload in the new website all the previous articles of Bulatlat from the year 2005 up to 2006. In addition, every intern is expected to have written and published at least one solo article at the end of the internship program. Aside from this, we are also expected to come up with a photo essay about anything at the end of our internship. For this requirement, I did a photo essay on our trip to Mindanao.
Moreover, we are encouraged by the staff to attend press conferences and cover rallies for us to experience the feel of being one of them. I was given the chance to attend a press conference for my ARMM elections article. I also went to cover the May 1, 2010 Labor Day rally together with my co-interns. Furthermore, I went to the 2nd death anniversary of Crispin Beltran held at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo. Cielo Flores and I also attended the FOI forum held at the University of the Philippines last May 25, 2010.
Over-all, my Bulatlat experience was enjoyable. Though the rallies and the coverages were tiring, it was good that I was given the chance to experience it. I became exposed to the actual work of journalists and I believe this experience will help me in the future. :)
