The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) is a non-profit media organization that concentrates on investigative reporting. It was founded on 1989 primarily because its founders thought of creating an media organization that would provide thorough analysis of the latest events and news. PCIJ particularly focuses on current issues that need in-depth analysis and reporting. It is headed by its Executive Director, award-winning journalist Ms. Malou Mangahas. Its Multimedia Director is Mr. Ed Lingao, another award-winning journalist and broadcaster.

Thos organization stesses on giving its readers a news story that is well-researched and well-written. They put hard work in every story they make because they believe that the readers ought to know the real issue and the real story behind every news. They dig deep down every information they have and they don't stop at nothing when they research because they want to get to the bottom of every story they make.

PCIJ has its official website www.pcij.org. They also have a blog site, www.pcij.org/blog for their daily news. Another site, www.i-site.ph is intended as a database about government issues. Aside from this, PCIJ publishes books and produces video documentaries about its special investigative reports. The organization also conducts investigative journalism seminars all over the world.

The PCIJ has already received more than a 150 awards and distinctions form different organizations both abroad. Some of which include being cited in the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA), United States (US) The Nieman Reports in 2008 and the 2010 The Agence France-Presse’s Kate Webb Award “for their outsanding investigative reports and seminars.

The staff consists of award-winning journalists and writers. They have been awarded by different award-giving bodies both here and abroad. Last 2009, PCIJ fellow Roel Landingin won 1st Prize from the Jaime V. Ongpin Awards (Investigative and Explanatory Category) for his series of article on Oddicial Development Assistance. Another award was received just recently by Mr. Ed Lingao. He won the Marchall McLuhan award for his outstanding reports on human rights, elections and governance.

With all of this organization's achievements and because of my fun and unforgettable OJT experience with them, I surely would love to work for them. In fact, me and my co-interns were asking our supervisor if they would accept us in case we apply at their office for work after our graduation. She'd jokingly tell us "Sana mayaman ang PCIJ noh? Para i-hire na namin kayong lahat." :)
